Peru: Formal employment retained upward trend in September

Formal employment in private enterprises (10 or more employees) remained on the upward trend in September 2016, recording a 0.6% expansion from the same period last year, Peru's Labor and Employment Promotion Ministry informed today.

According to the Ministry's National Survey of Employment Monthly Variation (Envme), economic sectors with the highest positive employment variation were trade (2.6%), services (1.1%) and extraction (0.9%).

On the other hand, sectors with negative figures were transport, storage and communications (-2.7%) and the manufacturing industry (-0.7%).

Lima's Metropolitan Area posted a positive employment variation of 0.3%, mainly driven by the increasing workforce demand in trade (3.6%) and services (1.2%) sectors.

Peruvian provinces

On the other hand, some cities in the Inca nation's interior provinces posted a 1.5% recovery in annual employment variation during the analyzed period.

Cities with the highest positive employment variations were Chincha (22.5%) in Ica region and Abancay (11.4%) in Apurimac region.

The survey was carried out at Lima Metropolitan Area's private formal enterprises and 29 cities throughout the country.
