Peru’s Cooperation Fund for Social Development (Foncodes), through Haku Wiñay-Noa Jayatai, will allocate S/.116 million (US$37.4 million) this year to finance 312 capacity development projects and benefit 31,211 homes of 23 territorial units living under conditions of poverty or extreme poverty.

The Haku Wiñay or Jayatai (“We are going to grow) program, under the National Strategy “Include to Grow” of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis) seeks to generate sustained economic autonomy among families living in rural areas of the highlands and the rainforest, so that they can overcome poverty.

Foncodes will have assisted 90,507 homes by the end of the year since October 2012 thanks to the financing of 839 capacity development projects.

This year, projects will be implemented in population centers located in Abancay, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Cajamarca, Cerro de Pasco, Chachapoyas, Chiclayo, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Huaraz, Iquitos, La Merced, Lima, Piura, Pucallpa, Puno, Tarapoto, Trujillo, among other areas.

The Haku Wiñay (in the highlands) and Noa Jayatai (in the rainforest) project consists of four components: strengthening of family production systems, healthy housing improvements, rural business promotion and financial capacity development.

Such an initiative is aimed at ensuring food safety and market access to support the economic autonomy of rural homes.
