As part of efforts to recover major foreign markets, a delegation of Peru's National Fisheries Society (SNP) recently participated in the Marine Ingredients Organisation Members' Meeting 2017 (IFFO2017).

Taking place in Barcelona (Spain) on May 1-3, the event convened fishmeal and fish oil producers for market forum meetings and workshop sessions.

The Peruvian team also featured Production Minister Bruno Giuffra, who affirmed the Inca nation "was taking a break and now is back on the market" as a competitive fishing player.

In this respect, the government official stressed President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's administration has three cornerstones for fishing.

The first, trust, "to attract private investments and maintain a good relation with entrepreneurs." The second, sustainability and productivity, related to the Marine Institute of Peru (Imarpe). And lastly, future, regarding the sector's positive prospects.

The Inca nation thus seeks to recover from a fish-meal and –oil production slowdown caused by poor regulatory policies and climate issues.

In this sense, SNP President Elena Conterno highlighted Minister Giuffra's participation with the message "Peru is back," is key for the promotion of the national fishing industry.

"This adds to Peruvian companies' efforts to offer the best products and recover lost markets," she concluded.
