17:50 | Anaheim (US), Oct. 19.

Following months of intensive work, a group of five Peruvian engineering students managed to win the Egg Protection Device Competition, organized by the highest authority on concrete in the world: the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

The national delegation was composed of National University of Engineering (UNI) students: Alex Condori, Kevin Laines, Bryan Valderrama, Christiams Santos and Jason Villalobos.

Held in Anaheim (California), the contest saw the participation of more than 40 universities.

Within this framework, the Inca team defeated groups from Brazil, Chile, India, Mexico and the United States.

It must be noted Peruvians also beat the squad from the University of Texas at Austin, which offers one of the most prestigious civil engineering programs in the world.

This is the second time a Peruvian team participates in such an event.

Last year, the Andean country finished 18th at the Concrete Convention and Exposition in Milwaukee

The competition

The international contest's objective was to design and build the highest-impact-load resistant plain or reinforced concrete Egg Protection Device (EPD).

The group, whose structure resisted the most impacts from diverse heights, obtained the highest score.

Additional points were awarded to the lowest-weight structure. Thus, the teams' challenge was to get a concrete mix as light and resistant as possible.

The international competition took place on October 15.
