President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski estimated a S/2.00-2.50 billion (about US$606 – US$757 million) investment will help improve drinking water access in Peru.

The Head of State also highlighted the government relies on a project portfolio for the next 18 months.

"Ten million Peruvians do not have access to clean water at home," the President noted.

"[Housing, Construction and Sanitation] Minister Edmer Trujillo, who is an expert on the matter, is taking care of that. He has submitted a list of projects for the first year and a half," he added.

"Said investment will amount to S/2.00-2.5 billion; that is, 0.5%-0.6% of GDP," Mr. Kuczynski told Santa Rosa radio.

Likewise, he ratified the government's decision to unlock major projects, such as the Southern Highway (Ica region), Majes Siguas irrigation & hydro-energy works (Arequipa) and the Southern Gas Pipeline for distribution to industries and mass consumption.

In this respect, the top official pointed out unlocking projects could lead to increasing GDP by 1 percentage point.

Mr. Kuczynski also referred to sustained optimism and expectations among Peruvians as key to achieving economic development.
