If chosen, Peru’s Dakar Rally 2018 will be the greatest event compared to previous editions held in the Andean country, Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) President Oscar Fernandez projected.

As is known, the Peruvian Government on January 24 formally announced its interest in hosting the major driving competition once again.

Remarks were made during a ceremony held by IPD to honor Peruvian drivers, who competed at the Dakar Rally 2017.

At the event, Fernandez recalled his meeting with Dakar's organizer Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO).

"We are working to finalize details, so Dakar returns to Peru in 2018. I am sure it will be bigger than previous editions," he underlined.

Efforts carried out by the Inca representatives during competition were also praised.

The 2017 race —held on January 2-14—comprised a tour traveling through Paraguay, Bolivia, and Argentina.

"I salute and congratulate drivers, who participated in the Dakar [Rally]," Fernandez stated while highlighting the outstanding performance by Nicolas Fuchs.

It must be noted Fuchs reached the 10th position after completing the 2017 edition's tenth stage.

The gathering also saw the presence of drivers Fuchs, Fernando Ferrand Malatesta, Fernando Ferrand del Busto, Juan Carlos Vallejo, Leonardo Baronio and motorcyclist Carlos Vellutino. All of them were awarded a recognition plaque.

Peru was included in the rally's route in the previous 2012 and 2013 editions.
