Peru: Dakar 2018's fourth stage (Photo gallery)

13:57 | San Juan de Marcona (Ica region), Jan. 10.

Peru's San Juan de Marcona area became the scene of a rough stage last Tuesday.

Not only that, it was deemed Dakar Rally 2018's longest route so far.

Featuring a 300 km special, the fourth stage put participants to the test, as they had to avoid loose and mushy land, as well as face the area's strong wind.

The photo gallery above shows moments of such race, which took place in one of Peru's southern mining areas.

As is known, Dakar 2018 kicked off last Saturday in Lima at Peruvian Army Headquarters, also known as Pentagonito.

This year's route includes cities: Lima, Pisco, San Juan de Marcona, Arequipa, and Puno.

Afterwards, the competition will continue its journey through Bolivia and Argentina.
