Peru: Copper production up 5.9% last February

National copper production increased more than 5.9% in February this year over the same month in 2016. Growth was observed in 8 regions all over Peru, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

Apurimac (225.2%), Junin (8%), Tacna (4.6%) and Cusco (1.2%) topped the list at the regional level, accounting for 46.9% of the national production. 

Output also increased in Puno (82.2%), Ayacucho (48.4%), Lima (5.4%) and Pasco (0.6%).

On the contrary, copper mining production declined in La Libertad (-36.6%), Ancash (-29.8%), Ica (-27.6%), Huancavelica (-2.8%), Cajamarca (-13.7%), Moquegua (-11.4%), Arequipa (-1.9%) and Huanuco (-1.3%).

Electricity sub-sector

According to INEI, electric power production fell 1.7% in February 2017 from the same month a year ago, as a result of lower thermal power generation.

At the regional level, production went down in Ucayali (-92.4%), Lambayeque (-38%), La Libertad (-36.4%), Piura (-28.1%), Loreto (-28%), Lima (-22.1%), Tumbes (-15.5%), Junin (-13.1%), Amazonas (-10%), Pasco (-9.5%), Ancash (-5.9%), Cajamarca (-3.5%), Puno (-2.6%), Cusco (-2.3%) and Tacna (-1.5%).

However, rise was observed in Moquegua (118.1%), Arequipa (98.1%), Madre de Dios (79.6%), Ayacucho (31.3%), Ica (29.1%), Huancavelica (26.3%), San Martin (15.1%) and Apurimac (7.2%) regions.
