Senior military commanders from Peru, Colombia and Ecuador have agreed to strengthen the fight against organized crime in the region, the Peruvian military said Friday.

During a four-day meeting in the northeastern Peruvian region of Loreto, military chiefs of the three countries discussed a variety of issues related to bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the Armed Forces Joint Command said in a statement.

They agreed to forge a joint crime-fighting strategy, which takes into account cultural idiosyncracies and self-determination of indigenous communities, and maintain security and stability along their countries’ shared borders, the statement said.

The participants also expressed their willingness to consolidate friendship and mutual confidence to promote understanding, development and order in the region, Xinhua reported.
