Peru thrilled the enthusiastic crowd by defeating Slovakia 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20) in a Pool A matchup of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship in Peru 2011.

There were no open seats in Gran Chimu Hall, as Peru fans clad in red and white made their admiration for the players heard.

The sound reached a deafening peak when Daniela Uribe served an ace to put Peru up (3-0). Likely dealing with nerves caused by the large, pro-Peru crowd, Slovakia initially struggled. Slovakia recorded five of their first six points off of opponent error. Slovakia battled back, but Peru held on to win the first set, much to the delight of the home fans.

Peru led for most of the competitive second set. Clarivett Yllescas, Peru’s captain, carried her squad with precise serves and timely kills. Maria Acosta and Vivian Baella combined to convert 16 of 19 digs for Peru. Through the first two sets, Peru had five players with five or more points, compared to two players for Slovakia.

Slovakia scored the first four points of the third set, but Peru managed to tie the score at five. Raffaella Camet came alive in the final set, doubling the five points she scored in the first two sets. Clarivett Yllescas scored the match-winning kill, bringing the entire crowd to their feet.

Peru scored 12 points off of serves, compared to eight for Slovakia. Clarivett Yllescas led Peru with 16 points, and Brenda Daniela Uribe had 11. Nikola Radosova led Slovakia with 12 points.

With the win, Peru secured the Pool A title, and will travel to Lima. Slovakia finished in second place in Pool A, and will remain in Trujillo.
