A good performance earned Peru's team a bronze medal at the 2018 ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship in the ISA Aloha Cup taking place in China.
The path
At the event, Peruvian surfers made their way to the semifinal #1, along with China, South Africa, and the United States.
Later, efforts by Benoit "Piccolo" Clemente, Lucas Garrido Lecca, Carolina Thun, and Maria Fernanda Reyes enabled the national team —along with the U.S.— to join the finals. Previously, they had managed to oust the hosting country and South Africa.
Australia and Brazil also reached the grand finals, following their performances in the semifinal #2.
Yet, U.S. athletes stood out in the last stage of
competition,
thus claiming gold and leaving the remaining participants in the fight for
silver medal.
Finally, Australian longboarders won such award, whereas Peruvians ended third (bronze), followed by Brazilians (copper).
It must be noted the ISA World Longboard Surfing Championship 2018 takes place in Riyue Bay in Hainan thru January 25.
