Dancing to the rhythm of Afro-Peruvian melodies, people gathered at Lima district's Barrios Altos Square, the cradle of "Criollismo," to celebrate Creole Music Day on Tuesday.
Every October 31, Peruvians commemorate "Dia de la Cancion Criolla" (Creole Music Day), a celebration of said ancient Peruvian genre that combines instruments such as cajon (a particular box-like drum) and Spanish guitar.
Tapadas Limeñas (the covered ladies from Lima) also brightened up the musical show organized by the Municipality of Lima.
Activities also included poetry declamation, performances by a music group and the reenactment of ancient Lima's lifestyle.
This initiative seeks to raise awareness among the population about the importance of promoting Criollismo in Peru and rest of the world.
