Peru's Armed Forces on Monday headed to flood-battered areas in northern San Martin region with the purpose of assessing damage and providing first aid assistance to victims recently hit by heavy rains in the northern region.

Supported by National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), Defense Minister Jorge Nieto deployed two patrol cars with 24 officers each.

One patrol carried relief aid for Cumbaza human settlement, whereas the other one reached Santa Elena human settlement, both in Morales district.

In this sense, the military contingent helped affected families clean the streets and remove debris. They also delivered humanitarian aid and set up tents provided by the district municipality.

It must be noted Peru's Armed Forces evacuated 60 families to facilities provided by San Martin's Regional Government, where they will stay temporarily.

These families came from San Pedro de Cumbaza and San Antonio de Cumbaza localities.
