Arequipa expects to receive over 125,000 tourists in August 2017, its Foreign Trade and Tourism Regional Management (Gercetur) affirmed.
Said figure would far exceed the one registered in the same month in 2016.
According to Gercetur Manager Miguel Apaza, the estimated number is based on data gathered by local lodging establishments and tourist arrivals to the city's top attraction,
Santa Catalina Monastery.
According to Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry, Arequipa is projected to host 95,834 domestic visitors and 29,973 foreign tourists this August, up by 14% and 6% —respectively— from the same month in 2016.
