The government of Peru has recently appointed diplomat Gustavo Antonio Otero Zapata as the new Peruvian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the State of Israel.

The appointment of Otero was announced on Wednesday after Peru made it official in a decree published in El Peruano official daily.

The document announcing the said appointment was signed by President Ollanta Humala and the Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gonzalo Gutierrez Reinel.

The newly-appointed diplomat will replace Ambassador Jose Luis Salinas, who was earlier recalled for consultation in Lima on the military operations in the Middle East. However, the Humala administration sent him back to Tel Aviv after five weeks.

Otero has previously served as Peruvian ambassador to the Russian Federation. President of Russia Vladimir Putin received his letter of credence that marked the official beginning of his work in September, 2012.

At that time, Putin said the Republic of Peru was an important partner for his country in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. “I am sure that the results of the talks I had with President Humala in Vladivostok will help to deepen our bilateral contacts and relations.”
