Peruvian agro-exports amounted to US$1.59 billion between January and April this year, a rise of 5% over the same period in 2016, Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry (Minagri) reported.
"Such increase was driven by higher shipments of traditional and non-traditional products, up by 6% and 5%, respectively," it informed.
Peruvian agro-exports reached 129 countries, with the United States (26%) being the largest importer, followed by the Netherlands (16%), Spain (7%), Ecuador (5%) and China (5%), among other nations.
Demanded products
Animal food (+50%), fruits (+39%), grapes (+23%), quinoa (+14%), fresh avocados (+9%), fresh mangoes (+7%), unroasted, decaffeinated coffee (+7%), among others, stood out among the main exported products.
Traditional exports
Traditional agro-exports reached US$113 million between January and April, up by 6% from the same period last year.
Said rise (7%) was boosted by greater sales of unroasted coffee, which accounted for 69% of total traditional exports.
It must be noted traditional agricultural shipments made up 7% of the total.
Non-traditional exports
On the other hand, non-traditional agro-exports expanded 5% to US$1.47 million, accounting for 93% of total sales.
The most demanded items were fresh grapes, fresh mangoes, fresh avocados and fresh asparagus, animal food, Cavendish Valery bananas, frozen mangoes, fresh fruits, quinoa, cooked asparagus, sugar free evaporated milk, cooked artichokes, among others.
