The 2016 general elections started on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. and concluded at 4:00 p.m. with nearly 23 million citizens attending the polls to cast their vote and choose the authorities that will rule the nation over the next five-year period.
It is worth noting a democratic electoral process took place in the Andean nation for fourth time in a row.
Peruvians were urged to head the polls calmly to elect their new President, two Vice-Presidents, 130 congress members, and 15 representatives to the Andean Parliament —five members, and 10 substitutes.
22,017,030 electors went to polling stations across the national territory, and nearly 884,924 expatriates did the same overseas.
A total of 5,000 polling stations and 77,000 booths were set up all over the country.
Electronic voting was used once again. This time, the initiative was implemented in 19 districts in Lima and Callao including Cieneguilla, Chaclacayo, Barranco, Lurin, San Luis, Pachacámac, Magdalena del Mar, San Isidro, Lince, Surquillo, Pueblo Libre, among others.
