Economist Nelson Shack Yalta will be the new Comptroller General of Peru for the next seven-year term.

Election took place on Wednesday at the Permanent Commission of Congress, where the proposal received a majority of votes (18 in favor, 1 against and 4 abstentions). 

Voting was held following a presentation to introduce his proposal.

Thus, Shack, 45, will replace former Comptroller Edgar Alarcon, who was relieved of his position due to major offences within the public service.

In Peru, a comptroller general serves a seven-year term and is elected by a majority of votes by Congress Permanent Commission members.

The Comptroller General's Office is responsible for supervising, monitoring and verifying the correct management, collection, and use of State resources and property. 

In order to perform its functions appropriately, the Office is endowed with administrative, functional, economic and financial autonomy.
