Following prominent participation, alongside 25 national companies, at the international tourism fair ITB Berlin 2024, it is estimated that the business potential will exceed US$13 million in favor of the tourism sector in the country, the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru) reported.

From March 5 to 7, the city of Berlin, Germany, was the stage for the successful Peruvian presence in the renowned Internationale Tourismus Boerse (ITB), which welcomed nearly 100 000 visitors, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase Peru to the specialized audience of the international tourism sector.

During the three days of the fair, the 300m2 Peruvian stand presented the tourism offerings of the coast, highlands, and the amazon, focusing on the adventure, nature, gastronomy, and culture segments.

Through immersive virtual reality experiences, traditional dance performances, and tastings of pisco, coffee, and cocoa, Peru stood out in Germany, which stands as the third-largest source market in Europe for tourists to Peru.

Furthermore, the Peru Wow campaign was officially introduced to the German market, aiming to reinforce the country's image as an authentic and diverse destination.

Through the communicative strategy of this campaign, it is projected to reach an audience of 3.2 million people in the European country, solidifying Peru's position as a must-visit destination full of unique experiences.

Participating in fairs such as ITB Berlin is crucial to continue strengthening Peru's positive image abroad and thereby boost the influx of tourists to the country.

It is important to highlight that during the first two months of 2024, the total arrivals of international tourists have managed to recover by 70% compared to 2019; only the month of February is at a 73% level compared to the same month in the pre-pandemic period.

In Peru, inbound tourism plays a fundamental role in the economy, generating a positive impact across all aspects of the national tourism industry. This economic benefit not only extends to the direct participants in the sector but also reaches local communities, promoting equitable and sustainable development throughout the country.

Peru's triumphs in Germany

Within the framework of ITB Berlin 2024, the Cavinzas Islands and Palomino Islets, situated in Lima region, received the prestigious ITB Earth Award 2024. Additionally, they achieved the second position in the "Destination Management" category.

Meanwhile, the city of Iquitos (Loreto) was distinguished as Latin America's Best Incentive Destination at the World MICE Awards 2023.

These recognitions highlight the commitment to sustainability, responsible tourism management, and the substantial promotion of MICE tourism.
