Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) on Thursday highlighted the Inca nation's successful participation at Seafood Expo Global 2017.

As is known, Seafood Expo Global 2017 is the world's largest seafood trade fair, which took place in Brussels on April 25-27.

"The presence of international buyers at this fair has increased by 25%," PromPeru Exports Director Luis Torres affirmed.

Torres recalled the Andean country had closed deals valued at US$50 million in the fair's previous edition, and now projects a 60% —or higher— rise.

"Seeing the increasing number of international visitors at the Peruvian pavilion in this fair has been a rewarding experience. We have [had] between 1,500 and 1,700 business meetings," he told Andina news agency.

On the other hand, Torres underlined the event was also an opportunity to launch the Super Foods Peru–Seafood brand.

In this sense, national seafood products like giant squid, shrimp, eel, trout, octopus and scallop stood out.

The PromPeru representative also referred to European and Asian buyers' interest in eating more healthily, and going even further into products' origin and quality standards.

In this respect, he underscored the role of the National Service of Fisheries Health (Sanipes) in shaping an exports offer that sets the course for the development of added-value fishing products.

It is worth noting Super Foods Peru celebrates the power of healthy, nutrient-rich food.

Such products include not only seeds and vegetables like quinoa, but also fishery products like giant squid, tuna, scallop, anchovy, shrimp and Pacific chub mackerel.

The Belgian fair constituted the brand's third presentation, following Fruit Logistica and Biofach fairs.

Seafood Expo Global thus became part of Super Foods Peru's international launch stage, which includes 40 activities this year in several food fairs worldwide.
