Peru’s President Ollanta Humala and Ecuador’s Rafael Correa signed Wednesday in Chiclayo a Joint Declaration calling for the strengthening of bilateral integration and establishing a new five-year agenda based on social inclusion and sustainable development.
During the Presidential Meeting and the V Binational Cabinet Meeting held in northern Peru’s city of Chiclayo, both presidents agreed to extend the validity period of the Binational Plan by ten years.
The leaders also agreed to allocate more resources to the Binational Fund in order to achieve new goals, reduce poverty and improve living conditions of people that live in the Border Integration Zone.
Humala and Correa noted that the important progress achieved in the fulfillment of the 1998 Peace Agreements is a solid foundation to start a new phase of cooperation that brings peace and friendship in order to have an integration that contributes to strengthening the processes of social inclusion and sustainable development.
In this regard, they agreed to develop a renewed agenda, in the next five years, regarding development and social inclusion. Thus, both nations will establish specific goals of social development in the Border Integration Zone for the benefit of low-income people.
As for the health sector, the Latin American presidents instructed the authorities to strengthen binational health networks, allow the access to suitable services, improve health conditions, control and prevent risks.
