Huascaran National Park, in Peru’s central Ancash region, expects to receive more than 6,000 tourists during this year’s Easter holidays, which run from 17th April to 20th April, it was reported Monday.
Pedro Gamboa, head of the National Service of Protected Areas by the State (Sernanp), noted the snow-covered mountain of 6,768 meters above sea level will become the third most visited among the protected natural reserves in the country.

"Huascaran attracted a total of 16,117 visitors during the first two months of 2014," said Gamboa. “This figure represents an increase of 2,000 travelers over the same period last year, with revenues estimated at over 150,000 soles (US$ 53,879)".

According to Sernanp, three of the most popular attractions located within the Ancash’s national park are the Llanganuco lake, Caraz and Huaraz, mainly visit by tourists from within Peru, while foreigners are mainly lured by Huascaran’s snow-capped mountains.

"The Paracas National Reserve along with the Ballestas islands, in the country’s southern Ica region, will receive 15,000 visitors over the reported holidays," Gamboa said in statements Andina news agency.

In that sense, the tourist official stressed the aforementioned protected areas received a record breaking 161,000 tourists in the first two months of the year.
