Foreign nationals show increasing interest in Peru's economic activities so much that the number of requests to obtain a special permission to sign contracts in the country has doubled.

According to the National Superintendence of Migrations, this permission authorizes newcomers to sign trade and/or financial documents, such as purchasing and leasing contracts, among others.

So far this year, more than 18,500 permissions have been granted, nearly twice the number of last year (9,305).

Such increase confirms the interest of foreigners with temporary migratory stay status in conducting economic activities in the Inca nation, within the Law and paying the corresponding taxes.

Obtaining a permission to sign contracts is a requirement to apply for permanent residence. Nevertheless, such document does not authorize aliens to work, since they need to get the required immigration status before doing so.

According to the immigration office, most of these requests come from citizens born in Colombia, China, Spain, the U.S., among other countries in the region, Europe, and Asia.

The application process will be completed online starting this week via the organization's website. This means the applicant's presence will not be necessary anymore.
