UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, cooked today some fresh Peruvian quinoa and olluco cebiche in the framework of the COP20-related activities.

Ban’s cooking was directed by two of Peru's most famous chefs, Gaston Acurio and Virgilio Martinez.

Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, joined Ban Ki-moon by preparing mushroom cebiche under Acurio’s direction.

Ban Ki-moon’s spouse, Ban Soon-taek tasted some of the dishes.

The preparation was done in an open, but restricted space.

The illustrious guests were accompanied by Peru’s Environment minister, Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, who explained them the characteristics of Peruvian ingredients.

The activity aimed at promoting the nation's native ingredients such as: native roots, aji limo (chili) among other samples of Peru’s biodiversity in order to raise awareness of the risks posed on agriculture by climate change.

The event took place at Peru’s Military General Headquarters, where the Conference of the Parties (COP20) is being held.
