Peru will continue to be among the most outstanding economies in the region and will be the second fastest growing nation, Andean Region Economist at Citibank Esteban Tamayo informed.

“If compared with other economies in the region, Peru is likely to become the second fastest growing one with 2.8%. As for Colombia, which we consider will be the first one, growth is seen expanding by 3.2% in 2015,” he stated.

Tamayo assured Peru’s economic slowdown has already bottomed out, which means the economy will only go up from now on.

“We believe the government has implemented countercyclical policies at the right time, which are expected to continue through the end of the year," he pointed out.

To the economist, March GDP growth of 2.68% was a well-received piece of news, mainly after the low rates recorded in January and February.

He also estimates our country will grow around 2.9% in the second and third quarters, and 3.2% in the fourth one.

The fishing sector began to improve compared to previous quarters; similar trends can be seen in mining and hydrocarbons.
