The Government of Chile, through its Foreign Ministry, today commented on the alleged espionage case by Peruvian Navy officers in favor of its country, and assured they do not either promote nor accept this type of actions in other States nor in their own territory.

According to a statement issued by its Foreign Ministry, Chile has reaffirmed its willingness to continue strengthening the bilateral relations process with Peru, objective which is shared by the two governments.

Chile, it added, has the political will to establish an agenda for the future with Peru, for which there is an intention of taking mutual trust and integration steps.

“In light of the situation proposed by Peru of an investigation concerning espionage and in respect of which high-level authorities of that country have expressed their opinion, the Government of Chile states that is does not either promote, nor accept espionage actions in other States or in their own territory,” it continued.

Chilean government’s spokesperson Alvaro Elizalde, in turn, rejected the claims on alleged spying activities in favor of his country.

"We are going to continue to promote the strengthening of the bilateral relations between Chile and Peru, with an agenda for the future to promote integration," he expressed.
