Brussels Airport is interested in adding direct flights between Peru and Belgium, as there is no direct service to any South American location at the moment, the Peruvian Trade Office in Brussels (OCEX Brussels) reported on Wednesday.

According to OCEX Brussels, Brussels Airport representatives held talks with Latam and Avianca airlines’ executive directors to make this initiative a reality in the medium-term.

To that end, the Peruvian office is making all the arrangements for the visit of airport senior officials to Lima in order to meet Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) and Transport and Communications Ministry (MTC) authorities next February.

According to Brussels Airport, about 20,000 passengers traveling to Peru each year are transferred to another aircraft or must get to Amsterdam (the Netherlands) or Paris (France) airports by land.

The Brussels Airport top management believes many Belgian and European travelers in general would use Brussels —due to its privileged geographical location— if there were a direct service to Lima.

On the other hand, OCEX Brussels has evaluated the possibility of launching direct flights to Peru in order to increase the arrival of Belgian tourists in the Inca nation.
