Leader of the legendary Irish rock band U2, Bono on Saturday traveled by train to the district of Machu Picchu, located in the Cusco's province of Urubamba, where he is to visit the new world wonder and climb the Huayna Picchu.

A source of Peru Rail reported that the rock icon, along with his family and members of his security team took the Hiram Bingham train at 09:00 hours (14:00GMT) at Rio Sagrado station .

Bono passed through Ollantaytambo Station at 11:00 hours (16:00GMT), and then towards the district of Machu Picchu, known as Aguas Calientes, in the province of Urubamba.

Fernando Astete, director of Machu Picchu’s Archaeological Park, noted on Friday they have reservations for Paul David Hewson (aka Bono), "his wife and two children to visit the citadel and Huayna Picchu on Sunday."

He added that it is possible that the star visits on Saturday the Inca citadel. There is great expectation in the town of Cusco where many journalists came to cover the visit of the Irish legend.

Bono has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, was granted an honorary knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, and was named as a Person of the Year by Time, among other awards and nominations.
