Peru’s Minister of the Environment, Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, said the COP20 organizing committee shall make ensure that both logistics and operation procedures will cause the least possible inconvenience to San Borja district neighbors.

It is worth noting the main venue of the 20th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP20) will be located at the Army Headquarters in San Borja, a mostly residential district in Peru’s capital city.

After welcoming hundreds of locals grouped in Neighborhood Councils, civil authorities and businessmen, the minister reviewed the preparations for and scope of the Climate Change Conference, to be held from December 1-12 this year.

Pulgar-Vidal, who serves as President of COP20/CMP10, thanked San Borja residents and authorities, represented by Mayor Marco Alvarez Vargas, for all the support received towards the success of the conference, which is the largest international event the country has organized.

With regard to transportation, he claimed a “shuttle” system has been arranged to pick up attendees from their hotels and take them to the venue. In addition, green-wave traffic lights have been programmed to prevent heavy traffic in the streets.

On the other hand, improvements to the Army Headquarters facilities include a solid waste management system, soil stabilization, an electrical substation with higher capacity, as well as improvements in the wiring system, water pumps and “bladders” to store water.

After a round of consultations, the neighbors expressed their support for holding the COP20 meetings in their district and noted they will make the necessary efforts for its success.

It should be noted delegates from 194 countries will attend the meeting in Lima to prepare a draft agreement for COP21, in closed negotiations and under the UN rules.
