Lima, Oct. 01 (ANDINA). In its latest World Economic Outlook (WEO), the International Monetary Fund, or IMF, predicted that Peru will be the fastest growing country in the region in 2010, followed by Chile.
According to the international organization, Peru will take the lead with a 5.8% growth, followed by Chile with 4% and Mexico 3%.
In this regard, American University economist Arturo Porzecanski noted that there are countries in the region such as Peru and Uruguay and perhaps Brazil and Colombia that will not even have a recession during 2009.
Porzecanski said that Chile is in the group of countries (along with Argentina and Venezuela, for example) that are going through a major recession.
This occurred despite the fiscal and monetary measures Chile has taken to cushion the situation, and its better macroeconomic management.
In additon, the IMF has revised its growth forecast for the world economy in 2010 from 2.5% to 3%. The estimate is also part of the report.
