The Youth Employment Law, enacted by the Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, will help reduce considerably unemployment in this particular group of the population, which has been exploited for years, said Peruvian Labor Minister Fredy Otarola.

During the opening ceremony of Virgen de la Puerta Hospital in Trujillo, northern Peru, Otarola pointed out the State has allowed employers to take advantage of the youth for years by not giving their employees their benefits or opportunities to be trained.

“This law improves professional internship programs; interns will receive a monthly salary, social insurance benefits and 15 paid vacation days. It is a voluntary and temporary scheme,” he noted.

The regime will last for three years and will train youth in the work field. It includes social insurance benefits.
