Washington D. C. will celebrate the Peruvian Gastronomy Day every first Sunday of June, day set by the city's mayor Muriel Bowser, Peru's Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva announced on Thursday.

Silva praised the declaration and highlighted Peru holds a high position in the American country thanks to its exquisite and varied cuisine.

"This decision reflects the international recognition of Peruvian cuisine’," she was quoted as saying.

On the other hand, the renowned Washingtonian Magazine has recently included two Peruvian restaurants, China Chilcano and La Limeña, in its '100 Very Best Restaurants' list, ranking 71th and 87th, respectively.

"This new recognition to our gastronomy and pisco-based cocktail industry follows others already earned at the international level," Silva said.

In 2015, Mincetur, the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) and China Chilcano organized a special event to promote the national gastronomy and Peruvian exportable supply made up of food and pisco.

As a result, pisco sales to U.S. market amounted to US$2.7 million between 2014 and 2015.

Over 6 million people reside in Washington D. C., and nearly 18 million tourists visit the said city every year.
