"We share and support President Ollanta Humala’s determination, who has declared a priority of his government to eradicate child labor," she said during that project’s launching ceremony at the headquarters of Peru’s Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion.
The diplomat welcomed that for the first time, Peru has a national strategy to ensure that about two million children spot working and return to school to study and develop their potential as other Peruvians.
In this regard, she praised the work of Peru’s Labour Ministry, which leadership supports this strategy that coordinates efforts of other government sectors, public and private institutions, and support of international cooperation.
Likins emphasized the implementation of the Pilot Project “Semilla”, which will benefit more than six thousand children and teenagers in rural areas of Huancavelica, Junin and Pasco (Peru’s Andean regions).
Finally, she reaffirmed the support of the U.S. government to support all those initiatives to protect the rights of children and teenagers in Peru.
