Aid provided by the United States to the Inca nation for emergency response efforts reaches US$1.5 million, its Ambassador to Peru Brian A. Nichols highlighted.
The diplomat expressed his solidarity and concern over natural disasters lashing Peru. Likewise, he affirmed U.S. President Donald Trump is committed to supporting the Andean nation.
"The aid we are providing amounts to around US$1.5 million," he said from the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) in Lima.
A considerable part of such aid consists of 10 helicopters and 1 airplane supporting airlifting operations. The aircrafts are contributing 250 flight hours at a cost of US$775,000.
In addition, 6 experts from USAID's Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance permanently accompany Peruvian Government authorities for support and advice.
"We are carrying out assistance works through CARE, Save the Children, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency [ADRA], as well as the Pan American Health Organization [PAHO]," he remarked.
"These [efforts] focus on health and humanitarian assistance matters in Peru's northern areas," he added.
Reconstruction
On the other hand, the Ambassador addressed the United States support to Peru's post-disaster reconstruction process.
In this respect, he informed the U.S. Government will send a team of Army and Geological Service engineers.
A commercial delegation will also arrive in Peru in May to cooperate with the private sector.
To this end, the North American Government is in constant coordination with Peru's Ministries of Economy and Finance, Foreign Trade and Tourism, as well as Housing.
