The United States Department of State is currently financing a solid waste management project presented by 20 Peruvian fellows of a program at the U.S. Embassy in Lima, which will favor the native community of Huilloc, descendants of the Inca lineage.

The 20 fellowship holders have helped to promote a better future for the community of Huilloc, in Cusco, through an environmental project aimed at maintaining the living cultural tradition and biodiversity of this town.

It should be noted they have voluntarily contributed to the development of the sacred and ancestral Huilloc community.

The project, which ran from 10 to 12 October, consisted of a series of workshops for awareness, recycling, evidence of environmental problems, planting of trees, leadership and appreciation of their cultural identity.

The project’s motto in Spanish is “Huilloc: Amigo y protector del medio ambiente,” in Quechua: “Huilloc: Pacha mamanchis uywaq” and in English: “Huilloc: Caregiver and Protective of Mother Earth and the Environment.”
