On the occasion of the Universal Children's Day, Representative of UNICEF in Peru Maria Luisa Fornara highlighted the rise in childhood investments in Peru and expressed confidence this trend will continue in the following years placing special attention on the protection of children and their right to live in a family.

Peru is one of the countries that have made considerable progress towards childhood as a result of public policies over that past twenty years.

Within the framework of the Universal Children's Day, UNICEF released a new report “For every child, a fair chance: The promise of equity,” which presents a statistical summary of how the world's most marginalized children have fared against basic human development indicators.

“If Peru keeps going in this direction and focuses on ensuring children’s exercise of their rights and access to quality services, warmth and cultural heritage, it will be able to develop an e-Generation, in which boys and girls have equal opportunities to reach their potential, make their life project come true and contribute to the country’s development,” she said.

Fornara stressed the fact that the National Action Plan for Children and Adolescents 2012-2021 has been raised to the status of law, and that the allocation of resources to implement it has been declared to be of national priority.

Moreover, she said this is an important step to face existing inequalities, which particularly affect indigenous children.
