This Thursday will see the official launch of the Global Eco-Innovation Project, sponsored and promoted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the European Union.

The launch will be addressed by international speakers Monica Borrero, representative at the UNEP Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean; and Sonja Bauer, an environmental management expert in the metal sector.

The Global Eco-Innovation Project is a proposal developed around the world. In Peru, it started through the creation of the Eco-Innovation Committee.

In this sense, national strategies and initiatives seek to foster integration of sustainable public procurement policies applied to Eco-Innovation.

The technical aspect of the project includes the development of six pilot cases in metal-mechanic sector companies.

Its scope suggests that strategies and business models should be implemented by the sector in order to offer sustainable products and services, thus meeting the increasing demand of such products in the market.

Eco-Innovation is any form of innovation aimed at significant and demonstrable progress towards the goal of sustainable development, through reducing negative impacts on the environment, enhancing resilience to environmental pressures, or achieving a more efficient and responsible use of natural resources.

Once completed, the project will provide a summary of best practices and lessons learned while implementing the pilot project.
