A forthcoming meeting of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) in Lima will discuss the draft Protocol of Peace, Security and Cooperation among countries in the region, Peruvian Foreign Minister Rafael Roncagliolo announced Wednesday.
The Unasur Summit will be held in the Peruvian capital on November 30, 2012.
Addressing a press conference after a cabinet meeting here Wednesday, Roncagliolo said arrangements are underway for the meeting, while the agenda is still being finalized.
The foreign minister also announced that the meeting of heads of state will discuss Democracy and Unasur, and the relationship between Democracy and Social Inclusion.
"We are working on the Protocol of Peace, Security and Cooperation among South American countries in order to create conditions of mutual trust and undertake mine clearance operations, such as in the cases of Peru and Ecuador and Chile," he stated.
Roncagliolo added that this mechanism also aims to cut military spending in favor of sustainable development of member countries and their populations.
Unasur is made up of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay (currently suspended), Peru, Surinam, Uruguay and Venezuela. Peru holds the rotating presidency of the regional bloc.
