Peru's 33-point poverty reduction over recent years is an unprecedented achievement in Latin America, which contributed to the country's active role in complying with United Nations' Millennium Development Goals, UN Resident Coordinator in Peru Maria del Carmen Sacasa affirmed.

Added to this were social inclusion, distribution and growth policies developed in the country.

Nevertheless, she also mentioned meeting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development objectives proves a “new challenge” for UN member nations.

Such document serves “the double purpose of a second global alliance for development, as well as a specific agenda on 17 subjects set out by member states to establish a universal standard to guarantee well-being.”

For the first time, said standard will be explicitly related to “inter-dependence in economic, social and environmental spheres.”

Peru presents results

On the other hand, Peru will present its first "voluntary report" on compliance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals, Foreign Affairs Minister Ricardo Luna informed.

In this sense, the Inca nation is “firmly committed” to the implementation of said parameters.

These are “in line with national development priorities” set forth in the government plan followed by President Kuczynski's administration.
