The United Kingdom supports Peru's initiative to become an Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) member, UK Ambassador to Peru Anwar Choudhury affirmed.

Remarks were made following the British diplomat's visit to Peru Congress Chairwoman Luz Salgado today.

The Ambassador assured both nations continue to forge increasingly stronger and closer ties. Said relations are not only confined to diplomatic and commercial areas, since the UK cooperates with Peru in various subjects.

In this sense, the United Kingdom also supports Peru's initiative to become a full member of the OECD, the UK diplomat assured.

Topics addressed during his dialogue with Salgado included education, health, renewable energies, Lima 2019 Pan American Games and strengthening of democracy through Congress.

Mr. Choudhury also extended an invitation to Congress Chairwoman and Peru-UK Parliamentary Friendship Group to visit the UK Parliament and further strengthen ties between said institutions.

On other matters, the Ambassador noted he does not see a visa waiver for Peruvian citizens traveling to the UK in the near future.

Nevertheless, the visa process is now simpler and shorter. In this respect, the UK Embassy's recently-opened Visa Application Center in Lima's Miraflores district includes a priority system to obtain the document faster than usual, he noted.

"We also have a direct Lima-London flight. The journey used to take 17 hours, but it's been reduced to 11. It means, we are closer now," he concluded.
