Two Chinese banks are increasingly interested in entering the Peruvian financial market in a bid to expand their presence worldwide, Peruvian Ambassador to China Juan Carlos Capuñay informed.

President of Peru's Banking Association (Asbanc) Oscar Rivera announced that in March two financial entities expressed their intention to enter the Peruvian banking industry.

“Not only two, but a few more banks have expressed their interest,” said the diplomat, who is planning to attend the Road Show Asia 2015 held in Beijing.

He went on to add that the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, or more commonly known as ICBC, already operates in Peru since 2014.

“The Bank of China, the second most important one, has representation but is not able to conduct business operations yet. Likewise, other Chinese banks are represented as well,” he was quoted as saying by Andina news agency.

Chinese banking has regularly requested to ease national provisions for opening its branches in order to strengthen its presence in Peru.

“Clearly, there is a growing real trend among Chinese companies of investing in our country,” he continued.
