TV Peru launches education channel for kids and young people

16:26 | Lima, Jul. 2.

State-run broadcaster TV Peru has launched Canal IPE, a new TV channel addressed to children and young people that will broadcast fresh and cultural content prepared under the supervision of National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru–IRTP.

The launch took place today, July 2, in the presence of Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, who returned from Chile after attending the Pacific Alliance Summit in Puerto Varas.

The initiative seeks to meet the demand for entertaining broadcast television with local, regional content and cultural programming.

The goal is to become a multicultural platform that contributes to national integration and the understanding of Peruvian diversity in every aspect.

Mr. Humala noted the launch of Canal IPE and said the new public signal becomes a milestone in Peruvian television and puts it on the forefront of cultural programming in Latin America.

He was impressed with the work carried out by young professionals, “which will result in high-quality television content.”

The Peruvian leader emphasized parents must know what their kids are watching; "they have to make sure the content is useful and not harmful."

Joined by IRTP President Maria Luisa Malaga, the Head of State toured the facilities and greeted children and young people of different productions.
