Peru is expected to rely on 27 trade agreements involving 72 partners from across the world as mentioned in the National Strategic Exports Plan (PENX), Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva projected.

"Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) do not become consolidated overnight. They are part of a State policy based on the constant search for markets […]," the official affirmed.

To date, Peru has signed 17 —currently in force— trade deals with: China, United States, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, Venezuela, South Korea, Cuba, Chile, Panama, Costa Rica, Thailand, European Union, Andean Community, Mercosur and EFTA (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland).

The South American country currently negotiates other treaties with Brazil, Turkey and El Salvador. Studies on how beneficial signing FTAs with India and Indonesia are being conducted, Silva indicated.

The Minister of Foreign Trade also reminded accords inked with the Pacific Alliance (Colombia, Chile and Mexico), Honduras and Guatemala, and highlighted the recent Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement, the planet's main economic bloc, which accounts for 40% of world's GDP.

Besides Peru, TPP is composed of Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, United States, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore and Vietnam.
