Tourism program fosters development in Peru's hinterlands

A rural tourist program promoted by the European Union is helping 256 low-income families from eight indigenous communities known as the Yachaqs, in south-eastern Peru's Cusco region, by promoting tourist attractions and their cultural heritage.

The said program is aimed at encouragig Peruvian citizens living in high Andean regions to trade their products and native cultural services with public and private entities in the organization of events and conventions.

In Peru, tourism represents a great development opportunity for communities, since the presence of different social, natural and cultural elements allows the creation and management of new and innovative tourism products that can complement the existing offer and foster greater inclusion in the area.
 
In pursuing the above target, the Codespa Foundation along with the European Union set up inclusive tourism projects to promote the families of Peru's hinterlands can generate their own financial resources. 

Rural Community Tourism gave pass to new ways of managing this core economic activity in the Peruvian Andean highlands.
