Tough draw for Peru at girls' U18 volleyball world championship

South American champions Peru have been handed a difficult draw for the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship in Thailand.

The Peruvians have been drawn in Pool D against 2011 tournament winners Turkey, a powerful Italy, Mexico and Chinese Taipei.

In Pool A, Thailand were drawn with European champions Poland, African champions Egypt, Pan-Am Cup champions Puerto Rico and Tunisia.

In Pool B, three-time world champions China – who won silver at the 2011 tournament – face up to Serbia, regional rivals and two-time world champions Japan, Argentina and Greece.

In Pool C, highly rated three-time world champions Brazil will play USA, Dominican Republic, Algeria and Slovenia.

The draw for the pool phase, which took place at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel on Thursday, was conducted by FIVB representative Ramon Suzara and FIVB Board of Administration member Shanrit Wongprasert.

The tournament will take place in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand between July 26 to August 4, and will feature a record 20 teams.

This year’s tournament will be the 13th edition of the Girls’ U18 World Championship, which is held every two years.
