Top Peruvian chefs to attend food festival in Washington

The biggest culinary event in the capital of the United States, Taste of Peru – Washington DC 2013, has confirmed big name Peruvian chefs to headline the tastings.

Taste of Peru – Washington, DC 2013 will host Mario Navarrete of Groupe MNJR in Montreal, Canada and Victoriano Lopez of La Mar in New York City, New York, Tommy Ingar of Tiradito Fish in Lima, Peru, Javier Flores, Aromas del Peru, Miami and Miguel Garcia of the Ritz Carlton in Washington DC.

These culinary masters will be joined by more than a dozen local chefs for tastings of cuisine with a Peruvian provenance.

The event will take place July 7, 2013 at the Carnegie Library at Mt. Vernon Square.

In addition to the best of Peruvian cuisine, it will feature live cooking demonstrations, food tastings, live entertainment and a special presentation by Consuelo Jordan about potato-based recipes.

To add flavor to the event, there will be zumba and salsa classes to promote healthy living. Guests can expect pisco sour and ceviche in a variety of presentations.

These celebrated chefs will demonstrate the preparation of famous dishes ranging from Ceviche to Lomo Saltado to Causa Rellena and more.

D.C.’s Mayor Vincent Gray will be leading the opening ribbon cutting ceremony for the Taste of Peru - Washington D.C 2013.

Taste of Peru Washington DC represents a unique opportunity for this city to be part of an event that will display the gastronomical marvels of Peru. Learning about good food and good nutrition is a benefit to all the D.C. residents,” said Roxana Olivas, Director Office of Latino Affairs of the Mayor.

Johnny Yataco, president of the Washington Hispanic, one of the co-organizer of the event, said “Food is the language of love and lovers. I am very pleased with the way this event is turning out, but I am quite surprised with the overwhelming support we have received, not only from Peruvians, but from the community in general.
Americans are fascinated with the Peruvian gastronomy. America has fallen in love with Peruvian cuisine.”
