Followed by thousands of pilgrims, the sacred image of Lord of Miracles is being taken on a procession through the streets of Lima as part of Good Friday celebrations.
As is customary, the painting of the so-called 'dark-skinned' Christ left the Nazarenas Sanctuary on Tacna Ave to make its way through the city's downtown to the Cathedral, where the preaching of the Seven Last Words from the Cross will take place at noon.
The two-ton moving altar will pass through Tacna Ave, Huancavelica Ave, Camana St, and Callao St before reaching Lima’s main square, where the Cathedral is situated.
Police officers and municipal security guards guarantee the safety of attendees, and vehicles moving through the area are rerouted to take a detour.
