Telefonica del Peru and Ericsson have joined forces to implement a project intended to provide internet access via 4G/LTE to schools and healthcare centers in the Peruvian Amazon next year.

Connectivity –which brings innumerable benefits, especially in remote and inaccessible areas– aims to increase social inclusion, foster economic growth, and contribute to a better quality of life for thousands of people.

This is the first project in Latin America to use 4G technology as fixed wireless internet access in remote rural areas with difficult geography, such as that of the Amazonian jungle.

Besides reducing the digital gap and fostering economic growth, internet access will also provide people in these isolated areas everything the online world can offer in terms of education, job creation and a better quality of life.

Research carried out by Ericsson and analyst firm Arthur D. Little has concluded that for every 10% point increase in broadband, the GDP of a nation increases by 1 percent.

"This kind of project is crucial for the development of the country, since it connects rural areas not only with the rest of Peru, but also with the whole world,” said Telefónica del Peru General Manager, Cesar Linares.
