Gladys Tejeda, the runner who claimed a gold medal at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games’ marathon, reminded to have been excited and surprised during the warm welcoming she received at the Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport last Wednesday.

“I wasn’t expecting this welcoming […],” the runner told.

“It has been a very happy moment for me. [it was] the best moment of my life because I was allowed to celebrate with the entire Peruvian people [...]” she told TV Peru.

In this sense, Tejeda remarked her mother’s presence in the ceremony, whom she considered the motivation "not only" for her sports career, but for the professional development as well. Due to her parent's support, the Pan American athlete managed to conclude primary education, she revealed.

“My mother never restricted and gave me confidence to move forward,” the runner expressed.

"I cannot stand still,” the athlete stated.
