Peru's Rural Agricultural Production Development Program (Agro Rural) announced it will launch the Sustainable Territorial Development Project (PDTS) along the Valley of the Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro rivers.
According to the Executive Project Coordinator, Jose Sialer Pasco, the aim is to lift more than 51,000 families out of
poverty and
extreme poverty in Vraem.
The experience gained in the Aliados (Allies) Program gives an optimistic view about the entry into Vraem to aid long-neglected, poor communities living in fear of terrorism- and trafficking-related violence.
The social and productive inclusion project is aimed at 27 districts across Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Junín, Apurímac and Cusco regions.
To that end, agreements have been signed with the corresponding mayors, who must keep track of the business opportunities inhabitants will get.
The project coordinator assured this new challenge constitutes "a new way of bringing growth by articulating efforts in the fight against poverty and extreme poverty, since this is the best way to improve social inclusion and provide aid to those most in need, and those who survived neglect and scarcity."
